BOOS WHO What Where When and Why An Introduction

This website is maintained by George "E-gor" Chastain, and I am solely responsible for any errors and inadequacies you may find in my pages. If you have comments, constructive criticism, and suggestions for improvements or additions, please contact me.

I made the colorized graphics using photographs or images scanned from books or magazines in my collection, assuming the original images were produced for promotional purposes, and that this would be fair use of the material. If this is not the case for certain images, please let me know.

The factual data (mostly details about specific films) is based on information I extracted from the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), supplemented with material from other websites, my own library and other resources at hand. The editiorial comments I added are primarily my own opinions if you disagree with them, feel free to challenge me!

I first constructed this site in 1997, as part of my support for the first Monster Bash classic horror movie convention held every summer near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My primary purpose, then and now, is to promote interest in the personalities and films discussed in these web pages, and to facilitate access to the most complete information currently available about the careers of a a group of film professionals who did exceptional work in classic horror films (among other things). A link to the person's filmography in the IMDb is always included, since that data includes character names for movie roles, information about work in other media, and links to related Web information on other sites. Errors or inconsistencies in this information can be corrected by contacting the IMDb directly.

BOOS WHO attempts to supplement the IMDb data with a good portrait of each personality, links to Web information elsewhere, and a commented list of notable film and television work primarily in the horror / sci-fi / fantasy genre, but also of other types. As much as I admire classic horror films, I'm also fascinated by other types of "Golden Age" movies, so my selection of a performer's notable achievements will usually include performances in non-horror roles including mysteries, historical dramas, serials, comedies and even westerns! One of the things I'd most like to do with these pages is to alert "monster movie" fans to the joys to be found in other types of films. For instance, a Bob Hope comedy with an unpromising title like Casanova's Big Night is well worth checking out because an amazing number of familiar horror-movie players have good parts in it Basil Rathbone, John Carradine, Lon Chaney Jr., John Hoyt, Hugh Marlowe, Frieda Inescort, Paul Cavanagh, Henry Brandon, Douglas Fowley, Nestor Paiva, Skelton Knaggs, and Vincent Price as Casanova!

I'm sure that none of these wonderful performers would like to be remembered solely for their work in one field, and I keep that in mind as I develop this site.

I'll work on improving this site with additional information about the current entries, and with new personality pages added whenever I can. I've started a working list of candidates for inclusion. Please send me e-mail if you have suggestions for additional candidates, or any other improvement.
