Independence Day

Independence Day 1994 was issued to commemorate the third anniversary of Ukraine's independence from the Soviet Union. As you can see, this is a simple souvenir sheet. It is significant, however, in that it's the first sheet printed entirely within Ukraine.

The floral design in the upper portion of this sourvenir sheet is the kalyna (Viburnum opulus), a motif which frequently appears in Ukrainian art.
