Butterflies and Moths of Ukraine - Part 2

On 11 February 2005, Marka Ukrainy released its second souvenir sheet of butterflies and moths. The stamps in this sheet have various values. In order of their catalog number (637-641) the stamps are:

• 45k - Death's Head Hawkmoth (Acherontia atropos)
• 75k - Dark Crimson Underwing Moth (Catocala sponsa)
• 80k - Malachite Moth (Staurophora celsia)
• 2.61hrv - Oak hawkmoth (Marumba quercus)
• 3.52hrv - Giant peacock moth (Saturnia pyri)

If its name or the image seems familiar, the Death's Head Hawkmoth (Acherontia atropos) has become something of an icon from its appearance in the Silence of the Lambs movie and cover art. Another name for this moth is the Bee Robber. It gets this name because raids beehives, where it feeds undisturbed on the honey.
