Butterflies and Moths of Ukraine

Lepidopterists -- those who study butterflies and moths -- received a treat on 26 March 2004 when Ukraine released its first souvenir sheet dedicated to these natural beauties. I also like the criss-cross layout of these diamond-shaped stamps.

The stamps in this sheet have various values. In order of their catalog number (566-570) the stamps are:

  • 45k - Kentish Glory (Endromis versicolora)
  • 75k - Eyed Hawk-moth (Smerinthus ocellatus)
  • 80k - Clifden Nonpareil (Catocala fraxini)
  • 2.60hrv - Lesser Purple Emperor (Apatura ilia)
  • 3.50hrv - Swallowtail (Papilio machaon)
