Who are the Ice Gypsies? We are a group of Pittsburgh Area adult ice skaters who get together on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for a group lesson, skating practice, and socialization, often known as a Coffee Club.
We have bounced around to several rinks in the Pittsburgh area, hence the name. And in the summer we are still rather peripatetic in search of ice. However, during the regular September-May season, we are currently meeting at Neville Island Ice Arena in Pittsburgh on their T Th 9:30-11:50am Adult Focus public session.
Admission to the session is $6, paid to the rink as you enter. If you'd like to join us on a 30-minute group lesson starting at 9:40am you can pay an additional fee of $5, which we will collect after the lesson. Your first lesson with us is free!! Skaters of all levels are welcome, from absolute beginners to double jumpers. Afterwards, enjoy good conversation with your fellow skaters. Coffee is available for purchase at the rink, BYO snacks.
The group lesson is focused on skating basics such as stroking and swizzles and crossovers and mohawks. Your legs may be wiped out at the end of it, but your edges get better by the minute, which helps with your skating in general as well as with jumps or spins or dance. The instructor is great! His name is Igor Novodran, he's Russian, and he definitely makes you feel like you're in the big time now. The people in the group are friendly and welcomes newcomers. Please come join us!
