A Preliminary Guide to the Provisional Postal Markings of Ukraine: Categories "A," "B," "C," and "D" of the Padwee-Bylen Classification System

The Preliminary Guide is an ambitious attempt to provide an orderly classification scheme for the various postal markings used in Ukraine during the later months of 1991, 1992 and 1993. The main body of this guide illustrates each category type. Examples of each type include a photocopy of the marking, as well as its measurements, place of posting, the earliest known date and the latest date of use (if known), and any additional comments. Some sub-categories contain hundreds of examples!

In addition to the taxonomy of postal marks, the guide contains useful reference information, including:

a list of geographical name changes in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Georgia and the Baltic States
name changes in other countries of the former Soviet Union
a list of postal terms used in these countries
Ukranian postal rates during 1991-1993
Ukranian postal codes
