Postal Rates in Ukraine
The total franking on a letter, was determined by the postal rate for
a specific period of time. For example, at the start of Ukraine's
independence, it cost 0.07k to send a letter and only 0.05k to send a
postcard. By the summer of '93, however, it cost 11k to send a letter
and 3k to send a postcard.

Although of short-lived value itself, the pre-stamped variety of the
7k Lysenko stamp of 1992 (right) continued to appear on covers from
Ukraine. It was frequently augmented with additional postage, such as
this 43 kop geometric surcharge. |

By the end of 1992, it cost 1k to send a postcard within the
country. To the right is the 1k Osyp Makovei commemorative found
pre-stamped on some postcards from that period. |
The following figure below shows a graphic representation of
inflating domestic postal rates for letters and postcards mailed from
April 1991 through June 1993.
If more dates were added to this graph, the lower end would shrink
from sight -- letter rates jumped to 27k in autumn of '93 and
continued to 5,000k by summer of '95!
