I began law teaching at DePaul University in 1975, joined the faculty at West Virginia University in 1977, and have held visiting appointments at the University of Kentucky, Washington & Lee, and in the Department of Legal Studies, at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

My teaching now focuses on lawyers in literature and film, and how we might read literary and film texts to educate ourselves as lawyers and to understand the broader meaning of our professional lives. I also teach criminal law.

In teaching "professional socialization" courses, I've had many and varied occasions to learn from my students, many of whom would be pleased to tell you that I learned more than I taught.
