Project Underground

Project Underground is an environmental and human rights organization that supports communities facing mining, oil and gas activities. The creators of the site point out that: "The globalization of industrial production and consumption patterns across the world has led to a rapid increase in mineral, oil and gas extraction over the last several decades. Multinational mining, oil and gas companies--predominantly from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and USA--have gone offshore in search of new reserves in 'competitive' investment environments. This has led to a boom in mining, oil and gas projects in the so-called South--often supported and subsidized by home governments through aid programs, tax incentives, free trade policies and liberalized investment regimes and privatization."

The site focuses on both domestic and global issues and publishes a newsletter called "Drillbits & Tailings" available by listserv.
